Millennium in Song
How wondrous is that breath that roused humanity to life!
The closing concert of our third season celebrates the 1,000th anniversary of the invention of modern music staff notation by Guido d’Arezzo in 1025, and thus features music from the 12th century to the present. Featuring works by (in chronological order) Hildegard von Bingen, Guillaume de Machaut, Vicente Lusitano, J.S. Bach, Michael McGlynn, Andrew Balfour, and Kenneth Lampl, plus the first and second prize winners of our annual composition competition, and two brand new commissions from J.D. Daniel and Gabriel Jackson.
